Best trading practices

We recommend that you learn about RZKUs selling policies before you list an item. This helps you avoid accidentally breaking any rules. If you fail to follow the rules, to protect the integrity of our marketplace, we may take certain actions such as removing your listings or products and limiting your buying and selling privileges. For more details, please see the individual policy guidelines below.

Selling practices policy

By keeping some basic selling practices in mind, you'll be able to create a great experience for your buyers.

Our full selling practice guidelines below provide a range of tips for helping ensure you keep your buyers happy. They cover areas such as the item description, your terms and conditions, postage and handling charges, delivery times, communication, returns and photos.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need to specify the location of the item in my listing?

Buyers like to know where the item is being sent from as it helps to give them an idea of how much postage will cost and how long it might take for the item to arrive. Having an inaccurate item location can cause confusion and lead to a poor experience for your buyer.

What should I include in my terms and conditions?

Be very clear and thorough about the terms of the transaction and include information about the forms of payment you accept, your postage costs and your return policy. Being upfront and honest about these terms helps build trust and provides a positive buying experience for your customers.

Do I have to accept returns?

You don't have to accept returns, but we highly recommend you do – it may help you attract more buyers.

If you do accept returns, you'll also need to specify the time period when you'll accept returns and who pays for the return postage.

Seller protections

When you sell on RZKU, we'll protect you from abusive buying behaviour and from events outside your control.

Frequently Asked Questions

How am I protected from abusive buyers?

If RZKU finds a buyer's behaviour abusive, we will take action on the buyer and remove negative and neutral Feedback and defects, including opened cases in service metrics.

What if something happens that is outside of my control?

We will protect you by removing negative and neutral Feedback and defects when things happen outside your control, such as weather or carrier delays, or when the item arrives late but tracking shows you sent it on time.

Shill bidding policy

Shill bidding is when someone bids on an item to artificially increase its price, desirability, or search standing.

Shill bidding can happen regardless of whether the bidder knows the seller. However, when someone bidding on an item knows the seller, they might have information about the seller's item that other shoppers aren't aware of. This could create an unfair advantage, or cause another bidder to pay more than they should. We want to maintain a fair marketplace for all our users, and as such, shill bidding is prohibited on RZKU. For more details on what constitutes shill bidding, please see our full policy guidelines below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use Buy It Now to buy items from people I know?

Yes, you can use Buy It Now to purchase an item from a seller you know.

Can my employees bid on my listings?

No, your employees can’t bid on your items, and you’re not allowed to bid on theirs. Sellers with employees should make sure their workers are also aware of this policy.

How do I report shill bidding?

If you think someone's breaking the rules, please notify  to us and we’ll look into it. Be sure to provide the member's user ID and the item number.

RZKU fee avoidance policy

Avoiding RZKU fees is not allowed, whether intentional or not. Sellers attempting to avoid RZKU fees create risk for themselves, and a poor experience for buyers.

Examples of avoiding fees includes making offers to buy or sell outside of RZKU, requiring the buyer to make additional purchases, or charging excessive postage fees.

What is the policy?

Sellers are prohibited from activities that avoid RZKU fees, intentionally or not. This includes:

  • Making offers to buy or sell outside of RZKU
  • Linking or promoting sites, items, or catalogues that can be used to order items outside of RZKU
  • Requiring a buyer to make additional purchases or to agree to terms outside of the listing
  • Cancelling bids or ending a listing early because the desired price has not been met
  • Charging excessive postage and additional fees not already included in the price of the item, or passing seller fees on to the buyer
  • Changing a listing duration more than 2 hours after submitting the listing
  • Misusing the reserve price feature in a listing
  • Listing items outside of the correct category
  • Falsely cancelling orders using Buyer hasn't paid as a reason, or refusing payment at the end of a successful transaction
  • Changing the information in a listing to sell a different item instead of listing a new item
  • Selling completely different brands, models, or types of items as choice listings, such as:
    • Selling different brands or models (for example, listing an iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 in the same listing)
    • Selling items with different conditions such as “new” and “used”

Sellers are responsible for paying fees for all sales made using some or all RZKU services, even if the sale terms are finalised, or payment is made outside of RZKU.

Sellers are also responsible for Final Value Fees if they offer or reference their contact information, or ask for a buyer’s contact information, in the context of buying for selling outside of RZKU, even if the item does not sell on RZKU.

Activity that doesn't follow RZKU policy could result in a range of actions including for example: administratively ending or cancelling listings, hiding or demoting all listings from search results, lowering seller rating, buying or selling restrictions, and account suspension. All fees paid or payable in relation to listings or accounts on which we take any action will not be refunded or otherwise credited to your account.

Seller performance policy

We always want to ensure buyers have a great experience on RZKU. To help ensure this, we've put in place minimum performance standards for areas within a seller's control, such as handling time and prompt problem resolution.

You can keep track of your performance against these standards through your Seller standards dashboard, and our full policy guidelines below provide additional details about how your performance is calculated.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's RZKUs performance evaluation period?

We evaluate your performance every month. The length of time we look at in each evaluation depends on how many recent transactions you've had. If you've had 400 or more transactions in the last three months, you're evaluated over that three-month period. If you've had fewer than 400 transactions in the last three months, you're evaluated on the past 12 months. These timelines help us make sure we're evaluating you as fairly as possible.

What happens if I don't meet minimum standards?

If you're not meeting our minimum performance standards, we may place restrictions on your account. Read our full policy below for more information about the possible consequences of falling Below Standard.

We want you to be a high performing seller so please view your Seller standards dashboard for tips on how you can make sure you're providing the best service possible to your customers.

Tax policy

Buyers and sellers must follow all tax laws and regulations that apply when using our services.

Our policy helps provide guidance on tax, but it's up to you to ensure you're compliant. Please contact the appropriate tax authority or speak with a tax professional if you have any questions about your tax obligations.

What is the policy?

Sellers and buyers are responsible for paying taxes associated with using RZKU, in accordance with all applicable laws.

Income tax

Sellers may be required to declare and pay taxes on income earned from RZKU sales. If you're selling on RZKU as a business, we strongly recommend seeking professional advice about your tax obligations.

Tax on RZKU fees

Depending on where you live, Goods and Services Tax (GST), sales tax, Value Added Tax (VAT) or similar consumption tax may apply to your RZKU seller fees, regardless of the RZKU website you use for listing or selling your items.

If RZKU is required to collect such taxes in your jurisdiction, RZKU will add the tax as a separate charge on your seller invoice or include the tax in our fees.

Please ensure that your registration address is up to date, so that we know where you are based.

Applying for tax exemption on your RZKU fees

If you use your RZKU account exclusively for business purposes, you may apply for tax exemption on your RZKU fees by providing us with your tax registration number. (In Australia, this will be your ABN; in New Zealand, your GST number.)

  • Once you've registered for tax exemption, your invoice will show your tax registration number, and be issued net of tax.
  • If, after registering for tax exemption, your circumstances have changed and you no longer qualify as a business, please contact customer service.
  • If you need to make changes to the tax registration number you have added to your RZKU account, please contact customer service, who will remove the old number from your account. You can then update it by re-entering your tax registration details.

RZKU reserves the right to request additional verification regarding your taxable status from you or government authorities as permitted by law. All information related to your taxable status (including personal information and your tax or business registration number) will be processed in accordance with RZKUs User Privacy Notice.

Tax on items bought and sold on RZKU

Many countries and jurisdictions around the world apply some type of tax on consumer purchases, including items bought on RZKU. Whether the tax is included in the listing price, added to the buyer's order total or charged at the border depends on the order price, the item's location and the buyer's delivery address.

Sellers must not misrepresent the location of their items on RZKU and must comply with RZKUs Selling practices policy.

Items sold within Australia or New Zealand

GST may be payable for the sale of items located in Australia or New Zealand and sold to buyers with a delivery address in the same country. If you are not sure if this applies to your sales, please contact the Australian Tax Office or NZ Inland Revenue Department and/or seek professional advice about your tax obligations.

As a seller, if you are required to charge GST on your items:

  • For listings on RZKU.com.au, your prices must include GST, when applicable. You may not add GST to the final value of an item once it has been won or bought.
  • You are responsible for paying that GST in accordance with the appropriate laws and regulations.

Items imported into Australia

RZKU is required to collect GST on orders up to AU $1,000 imported into Australia or up to NZ $1,000 imported into New Zealand.

If an item is located outside Australia or New Zealand and the buyer selects an Australian or NZ delivery address, RZKU will add GST to the order total at checkout.

Information for buyers If there is any dispute as to the GST you have paid on an order, you should contact RZKU. If you receive a full or partial refund for your purchase, you will also receive a refund for the proportionate amount of GST.

Information for business purchasers If GST was collected, you can view and download a tax invoice from the Order details page in your Purchase history.

Information for sellers If GST was collected by RZKU, the tax amount will be deducted automatically from the buyer's payment. RZKU remits the GST amount to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) .

You'll need to ensure that you include RZKUs tax details and the customs code on the package.

    • We may add RZKUs tax details to the buyer's delivery address, which you need to include on the parcel.

Orders over $1,000 RZKU doesn't collect GST on orders over $1,000. This is generally collected at the Australian or NZ border.

Items exported from Australia

The listing price on RZKU.com.au must still include GST. Contact the Australian Tax Office or NZ Inland Revenue Department for information about paying GST on items you export overseas.

Remember that as a seller, you may also have tax obligations in other countries if you are doing business outside Australia or New Zealand.

  • UK & European Union: If you're selling to buyers located in the EU, read our article on your VAT obligations in the UK & EU. In 2021, there will be changes to the VAT treatment of imports into the UK and EU as well as certain shipments within the EU.
  • Other countries: If RZKU is obliged to collect sales tax, Goods and Services Tax, Value Added Tax or similar tax in the jurisdiction to which the item is being delivered:

For more information about your tax obligations when selling to buyers in other countries, please contact the appropriate tax authority.

Please note that RZKU will share your information with government authorities if required to do so by law.

Intellectual Rights Owner (I RO) policy

Listings or products that infringe on the intellectual property rights of others are not allowed on RZKU.

We created the Verified Rights Owner (I RO) Program so that intellectual property owners could report listings or products that infringe on their intellectual property rights. It is in RZKUs interest to ensure that infringing items are removed from the site, as they are illegal, and erode the trust of our buyers and sellers.

What is the policy?

Intellectual property rights owners

Only intellectual property rights owners can report RZKU listings that infringe on their copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights. Sellers who are rights owners can learn more about the IRO program and file a report from the Reporting intellectual property infringements (IRO) page.

Not the rights owner

Members who are not the rights owner can still help by getting in touch with the owner and encouraging them to contact us. Some rights owners who participate in the IRO Program have created a participant page, so RZKU members can find out more about their products and legal positions. Though not all IRO participants have a page, those that do can be found at our IRO participant pages.

If a seller's listing or product was removed

Sellers who believe their listing or product was removed in error, can learn more about how RZKU protects intellectual property (IRO).

Activity that doesn't follow RZKU policy could result in a range of actions including for example: administratively ending or canceling listings, hiding or demoting all listings from search results, lowering seller rating, buying or selling restrictions, and account suspension. All fees paid or payable in relation to listings or accounts on which we take any action will not be refunded or otherwise credited to your account.
